Founders Reading Club — Privacy Policy

Effective Date: February 12, 2026 · Last Updated: February 12, 2026

Yaying Liang ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Founders Reading Club mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices available to you.

1. Information We Collect

a. Account Information

When you create an account we collect your email address, username, and display name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive only the identifiers those providers share (name, email).

b. User-Generated Content

Reflection posts, highlights, comments, audio recordings, tags, and other content you create within the App.

c. Usage & Device Data

Anonymized analytics such as screen views, session duration, device model, operating system version, and crash reports.

d. Audio Data

If you record a voice note, the audio file is stored locally on your device by default. Audio is uploaded to our cloud storage only when you explicitly publish a post or comment as public.

We do not collect precise location, contacts, health data, financial information, or photos from your device library.

2. How We Use Your Information

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers.

4. Use of Third-Party AI (OpenAI)

Disclosure: We use the OpenAI API for the following limited purposes. We obtain your consent before any personal data is processed by OpenAI.

a. Content Moderation

When you publish a post or comment publicly, the text content may be sent to the OpenAI Moderation API to check for policy violations (e.g., hate speech, harassment, explicit content). Only the text body of the content is sent; your name, email, and account identifiers are never included.

b. AI Reflection Nudges (Optional, V1+)

If you opt in to AI-assisted reflection nudges, anonymized excerpts from your reflection posts may be sent to the OpenAI API to generate reflective questions and reframing prompts. No personally identifiable information is included in these requests.

c. OpenAI Data Use

We use the OpenAI API under terms that prohibit OpenAI from using your data to train its models. Data sent to OpenAI is processed transiently and is not retained by OpenAI beyond what is necessary to deliver the response. See OpenAI API Data Usage Policy.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active. Audio files for private posts remain on-device only and are never uploaded. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Your Rights & Choices

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under the GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected data from a child, we will delete it promptly.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures — including HTTPS/TLS encryption, Supabase Row Level Security, encrypted storage, and secure authentication tokens — to protect your data. No method of electronic storage is 100 % secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the App and updating the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
